9 Month Stats

Owen had his 9 month check-up today. It was a little early, but we went with it.....

Height: 28 3/4 inches (50-75%)
Weight: 18lbs 6 ozs (25 %)
Head: 45 cm (25-50%)

We asked the doctor if he was too skinny and he said that he was perfect.....and that if anyone told us he was skinny, then we could tell them that their baby must have been fat:) Love him! Anyways, if he keeps this up it looks as if he will be just like his daddy.....wearing slims when he gets a little bigger:)

Anyways, I know I have been a bad blogger lately.....I promise to try and be better! I have lots of posts in my head, it's just finding the time to get them down:)

Tooth #4-Finally!

Tooth #4 finally made its appearance. He now has 2 top and 2 bottom ones....and we are very happy because yesterday afternoon was a little rough. He had a good morning and took a great morning nap, but only about a 40 minute afternoon one. He woke up pretty unhappy, even though he had Tylenol, and would even cry when he put something in his mouth. We resorted to anbesol and frozen teething rings:) We did give him benadryl before he went to bed last night--we had just been rubbing it on his gums because we really didn't like the fact that we were drugging him--and this morning it had pushed all the way through:) Now we wait for more!

Houston.....we may have a problem!

So about a week or so ago, my wonderful sweet boy who has been sleeping through the night since he was 12 weeks old....stopped doing it! For anyone who is keeping track, that was right before I went back to work! We knew he was teething, (obviously since the 1st top tooth popped through about that time) but he had seemed to do fine with the bottom ones so we were wondering if there was something else going on. We had already been giving him Tylenol before bedtime to help with any pain that he might be having, but of course it was probably wearing off before morning. A couple of times he would wake up crying and other times he would just wake up and have a hard time going back to sleep......so enter mommy with her magical power (boobs!) and he would go back to sleep easily and sleep the rest of the night. We wondered if maybe he was getting hungry, so we tried giving him some cereal before he went to bed....that didn't help. We tried keeping him up a little later....that didn't help. I finally called the Dr's' office yesterday and you'll never guess what they told me.....give him benadryl! The doctor had mentioned it when I was in before, but I just kind of laughed it off and thought "I'm not going to drug my baby to get him to sleep!!" The doctor also said that it helps to dry up some of the extra saliva that is being produced during this time as well--ok so maybe there is a little medical reason why:) I talked with the nurse and she said that she had done it and not to worry that he would be fine and then we could all get some sleep. She said to do it until the next tooth made an appearance and then take it away the next night because after that he shouldn't be as uncomfortable. Tony and I talked about it and decided to give it a try last night. We checked on him more times and probably got less sleep than we would have if he had just woke up during the night, but he did fine with it and slept the whole night. It looks like the other top tooth will be popping through at any time--very swollen tonight at bath time--so hopefully we can get back to our regular routines soon:)

Last Day....

Today is my last day off before returning to work. It has been a great summer! I enjoyed my time at summer school, 1/2 days-4 days a week was a great schedule! Now I have been off for 3 weeks straight and I have enjoyed it immensely. Owen and I have definitely gotten into a good routine and I will miss our time together when I go back, although I know gramma has been missing him like crazy!

It is amazing how much he has grown over the past few months--he is becoming his own little man and doing SO many new things. Oh, and I need to take back the part in my 8 month post about him not pulling up.....he started doing it yesterday like a pro! Daddy and I are amazed! He even pulled himself up in the pack-n-play this morning while I ran on the treadmill--now that is impressive in my eyes, especially with nothing really to hold onto!

So here's to a great summer! I'm now going to go back to soaking up my time with him.....

Tooth #3

Well tooth #3 has decided to make an appearance.....thank goodness! He has been extra irritable these past few days, so we knew that it was coming:) Last night when we were out swinging and he had a big smile, I thought I noticed a little white bubble looking ready to pop through on his top right. I had daddy look and he agreed. He had a pretty restless night sleeping--we could hear him on the monitor--and this morning you can just barely feel it. I'm sure #4 will not be too far behind!

Swimming!

We finally got around to taking Owen swimming at Grandma Mary's. He wasn't too sure at first, we think maybe he was a little cold, but after a few minutes he was kicking and splashing like crazy! He kept wanting to put his face in the water, but didn't like it too much when he swallowed it:) He did good for about 30 minutes and then it was naptime! Here are some pictures to document the experience:)

Waiting patiently while we snapped pictures.

Just starting to really enjoy himself.

The hat lasted longer than I thought!

8 Months!

8 months already! Where does the time go? It is amazing how fast Owen is growing these days! It seems like everyday he is doing something new! So here is our 8 month update:)

Teeth: Still only 2 on the bottom. We keep waiting for another to pop through at any minute, but nothing yet! He is always chewing on something...fingers, bib, dog leash, flip flops--you name it, he can chew it:) He has also been a little cranky, so Tylenol has been our friend too!

Mobility: Oh yes, he is VERY mobile now. Tony was just mentioning last night how much quicker he is from a week ago! We now have all of our outlet covers and plug covers on, although he can still find a cord when there is one to be found! Our new favorite word is NO--it seems we are always telling that to him.....you know, when he is pulling on a cord, playing in the cat food, digging in the dirt in the potted plant, pushing buttons on the DVD player, etc.:) He is standing a lot too, but only rarely pulls himself up. Usually we help him, although I know the time will be coming when he doesn't need/want our help any more! He can get up just fine to his knees, so we know it will be soon..... He has also learned how to sit himself down from the standing position. We used to be able to stand him at his table and be able to do something really quick because we knew he didn't know how to get down (well without falling and he didn't really like to do that!!) but that is all out the window now--he just plops himself down and crawls away when he wants too!

Sleeping: Has still been going pretty well overall. He is tending to wake up a little earlier in the morning lately--we aren't sure if it is his teeth bothering him or what--he still sleeps through the night, so you can't ask for much more than that. He is still taking 2 pretty good naps during the day, so that is helpful to be able to get some things done as well:)

Eating: He still does not like many green vegetables. I've been meaning to make some more green beans and maybe try some asparagus, but haven't gotten around to it. He has started eating some meat--I don't make that:)--he wasn't a huge fan of it plain, so we usually mix 1/2 jar in with his vegetable at dinner time and he eats it great! We've also introduced a little bit of juice....more like a splash of juice with a bunch of water! He likes it a lot too! We've also given him some teething biscuits--well they are more like rice cakes:) He does pretty good with them and really likes them. We've had a gagging incident or two, which scared us to death, but he enjoys them:) Since I have been home these past few weeks, he is still nursing 3-4 times a day. I've finally broken into my frozen reserves in order to make his cereal in the morning--we should be good for a while since I still have 2 grocery sacks full in the freezer. Again, I NEVER would have thought that I would still be doing it and I actually get a little sad when I think about stopping.....it is kind of "our" time together:)

Overall he is an excellent little guy. He has began to have a little bit more personality--making his feelings known--and that is fun. We've also introduced some simple sign language with him. We've started with more, milk, eat, drink, and all done. We usually do it mostly when he is eating, but I've tried to get more and all done in when we are playing and during bath time so he starts to realize it can be used more than just at mealtimes. We are still totally in love with him and can't wait to see what he starts doing in the next month!

Here are a few pics to enjoy!

One of the first times standing at his music table.
Now we rarely sit behind him.

Watching the cubs game....this might have actually
been a game that they won!

Where are all the clothes mommy? I was going to help!

Oh, these aren't mine? But Tasker said he would share.....

First time with the teething cake:)

Oh...and today is miracle treat day at Dairy Queen! Make sure you go and get a blizzard....it's for a good cause:)

Swingin!

Daddy finally got the swing hung up in the backyard. Owen and I waited patiently on the deck as we watched him work:) I decided that I would let daddy do the honors of pushing for the first time since he did all of the work getting it ready! Needless to say, Owen really enjoyed himself:)

Daddy getting him all set!

Having a lot of fun!

He's really not too high--the picture just makes it look that way!

We are excited to have it hung up and hope to get lots of use out of it before I go back to work next week, although with how hot the weather has been lately it will mostly get used in the evening anyways!
