Updates: Toddler Bed and Gramma

Well, I thought I should get on a do a few updates about some of my last topics.....

First, the Toddler Bed: Owen did really well with the toddler bed until about week 2. We really weren't having to put him back in bed at all, then all of a sudden...Boom....he was out several times, both at nap and nighttime! One day I found him sitting in bed with everything removed from the bottom part of his changing table all around him....while squeezing a prescription tube of butt cream out and rubbing it on his hands, face, clothes and bed rails! Thankfully he had emptied the rest of a package of "Boogie Wipes" so the clean up was fairly easy and fast...sans changing his clothes. This seemed to happen at my mom's house as well....did really good for a week or two and then started getting into everything. Guess he just needed to try out his new freedom a little:) Luckily it seems he is back on his good bed behavior....so lets hope that I didn't just jinx it!

Second...Gramma: After some time she finally decided to go to a chiropractor and have her back checked out. She had been avoiding this option because she had fallen and broken several of her ribs...like 7!....and they had taken a really long time to heal, so she was worried that while being adjusted she would hurt them again. Thankfully the chiropractor and a little physical therapy has helped immensely! Owen was able to go back to her house this last week. I wouldn't say that she was at 100% on Monday, but definitely tons better than she had been. By the end of the week after a few more appts, so was feeling pretty good. I hope we are able to keep the good progress:) Owen was definitely happy to go back...he asked every morning if he was "going to gramma's house?" I was very happy to tell him yes:)

Please, I Can't Even Think About That!

So as most of you know, my mom watches Owen for us while we are at work. She told me that she wanted to retire early and watch him for us when I was about 8 weeks pregnant...so I have never had to think about anyone else watching him.....well that could be changing:( My mom has had back issues every now and then, but after a couple of days she has always been better. She hurt her back a couple of weeks ago and is still struggling to get better...in fact it has only gotten worse. On Friday of last week my dad called and told me that she couldn't watch him. Luckily we were able to find someone last minute for that day. I talked with my mom on Sunday and she said that she was doing better, so I didn't think anything different until I walked into her house on Monday morning and my dad was there....in jeans...which meant that he wasn't planning on going into work. My mom was laying on the couch in pretty obvious pain and when we started talking she asked if we had a "plan b" in case she couldn't watch him anymore. "uhhh, no" I wasn't sure what to say about it, but needless to say I left her house a little stunned. On Tuesday my dad took a 1/2 day and then after Owen went down for his nap he went to work. My mom only had Owen for a short while before I was able to come and get him. We got the rest of this week covered....but I can't even think about where we go from here!

I've never realized until the moment she asked if we had a "plan b" how spoiled we have been to have her watching him. She keeps him late, when he's sick, takes him to the doctor, to the library, to music class, to playgroup, comes to my house when I have an early meeting in the morning and don't want to have to wake him up and many, many other things. But most of all she loves him....and I can't imagine anyone else keeping him for that main reason. I know it is killing her inside to even think of us having a "plan b" let alone us actually having to use it. I get weepy every time I think about having a conversation with her about if we really need to find someone else....in fact Tony is worried that he is going to have to do it! I just keep thinking that after a few doctor appointments she will feel better....because Please, I seriously can't even think about that!

So if you would, please keep my mom (and me!!) in your thoughts and prayers.

Toddler Bed!!

We have been talking for a while about making Owen's crib into a toddler bed....but daddy has been dragging his feet! He thinks it means that he is growing up too fast:) While I agree that he is growing up too fast, it was time for us to covert his crib. Plus, he has been sleeping in one since January at Gramma and Grampa's house. (she thought it was cruel to make him sleep in the pack-n-play everyday when he was just about too tall to lay long ways in it!) So, I finally convinced Tony to do it last weekend:) At first he "couldn't" find the hardware for the conversion, but low and behold it was located...so no more excuses:)

Daddy figuring out where to start.

Oh wait Daddy....do you need some help?

I am the best helper! He actually did do some of the screws,
Daddy just needed to tighten them:)

Laying in my "big boy bed!!"
He has actually done pretty well...the first day I only had to put him back in 3 times for his nap. He woke up a little early during the first couple of days....hearing "My waked up in my bed mom" at 4:45 in the morning is still cute, but not as much as it would have been at 6:45:) He was also very sick this week with an upper respiratory and sinus infection, so I think not being able to breathe was attributing to the early wake-ups because nap lengths were also affected. He would go back to bed if we told him to, but he didn't seem to stay there long:) Tony and I talked about putting a gate up in his doorway, but I decided that I would "talk" with him about when it was a good time to get up. I told him that he could only get up if mommy and daddy were awake or if the sun was up or we would have to put a gate up. He got upset when I said a gate would be put up and I think he thought it meant we would convert his bed back to his crib.....Tony thought I was crazy but it worked! The next morning he didn't get up until her heard Tony in the kitchen making breakfast before work. This morning he woke up about 6:30...which is about the time the sun is up...Tony tried to tell him to go back to bed, but I caught him peeking around the corner of our door a few minutes later:) Overall he is doing well.....although the gate is still not out of the question if needed!:)

Fuzz

I'm sure one day when he's older, Owen will hate me for posts like this one....
but I just couldn't resist!

A month or so ago I bought Owen some new socks and after we took them off, they left lots of toe fuzz behind. Tony and I were making a big deal about it and now we have created a monster! Owen is now obsessed with toe fuzz....when you take off his socks, he will scourer his toes for any remnants of the stuff. It is actually quite hilarious...Tony has had to carry him into the bathroom bent in half picking toe fuzz so he can take a bath on some evenings. We thought this obsession would fade, but it is still going strong after a few weeks....so we decided to snap a few pictures to commemorate the obsession for good blackmail material for when he is older:)

Getting ready to take off the socks...funny thing is, these
are the actual socks that started the whole thing:)

Inspecting for fuzz...
Like I said.....I just couldn't resist:)

Goodnight Daddy

Tony was gone all last week for a work trip. He got to go to Vegas....so I'm not sure that I would call it all bad:) I decided after 2 nights of him being gone that I would send him a picture of Owen sleeping as a good night text. Is there really anything better than a baby (I have to use that term loosely now!) sleeping?

Night 1

Night 2
Night 3
Night 4

Waiting for Daddy at the airport:)
We're glad that Daddy is home...we missed him!

The Regimen

The new regimen of vitamins has begun! We both started at the beginning of the month and are hoping that this helps in the quest for baby #2.

Here is the list of what we are taking this time:
  • Udo's Blended Oil and Nutra Sea Oil-These are two liquid oils that we mix with cranberry juice every morning.
  • Vitamin D3-just me
  • Cinnamon (it is a natural insulin sensitizer)-just me
  • Vitamin B Complex-both
  • High Dose Anti-Oxidant-both
  • L-Carnitine-just Tony
I guess only time will tell......

Teeth 17 and 18

I have been forgetting to post about his 2 year molars! After what seemed like months of chewing on his fingers, Owen officially has his bottom 2 year molars! (only about a month and half late on the post!!) I'm not sure when the top two will be in. I check every once in a while when I'm feeling brave enough to stick my fingers in the back of his mouth, but so far nothing on the top. He winces a little when we brush his teeth up there and he still chews a little at times....so who knows when they will actually be in:)
